This is an unbiased Klair’s Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish Review from real-time experience. So, pay attention if you want to make the most out of this product!
For so many years of my life, I have had dehydrated skin. My skin is always peeling and flaky no matter how much I moisturize. If I don’t put enough or if I break my routine a little bit, my skin will start to peel and flake or from not drinking enough water or food sources with enough oils in it.
And also, I have a hereditary blackhead that runs in my family. My pores get close really easily and especially on my nose and in my little inner cheek area.
I always have blackheads even after I extract them, they will still come back and they’re just constantly reoccurring because that is my skin, that’s what it does no matter what skincare routine I do, however.
In a bit to find the solution to this problem, I went scrolling the internet for information that could be of help, and by chance, I stumbled upon a review of this same scrub.
The Turning Point!
I bought the scrub just to give it a try as I have tried others without the expected result. I noticed ever since I started using this scrub like four years ago, it has helped at maintaining clear pores, the amount and regularity that I would develop blackheads were significantly reduced now.
However, it’s not going to be like ‘’no more blackheads’’ for the rest of your life let’s be honest. This was amazing. By just scrubbing away any blackheads or clogged pores that were surfacing but not able to come out completely on their own.
Not without actually having to go in and use a blackhead extractor or pinch them out quite literally. It was great for those ones but it couldn’t get everything out of my skin it did what I wanted it to do.

Application & Result
My favorite time to use this product is at night time. Just mix this with two pumps of cleansing oil you can use any cleansing oil of your choice (for sensitive skin) or you can follow the directions and mix it with a couple of drops of water. That slightly dissolves the sugar crystal.
Apply all over your face in circular motions. Don’t press hard, you don’t need to press hard at all. Just light circular motions all over the skin and it just gets rid of everything for you.
Everyone’s skin is different, it just so happens that Klair’s brown works really well with my sensitive acne-prone skin type but for some people, this could be too harsh on the skin.
If you have some really sensitive skin, then definitely be careful. If you’re going to use a sugar scrub on your face for the first time, go gentle. Be careful with it and don’t overdo it because it is physically removing dead skin cells off your face so it can be a little harsh for some people at first use but you’ll definitely get used to it.
Packaging
The scrub package label has been the same In the past years until 2017 when it was modified and improved to upgrade the product. From 50ml to 110ml. The labeling was also enhanced.
The scrub now comes in a hard plastic jar, when I first took the product out of the delivery box, I thought that it was glass. But NO, rather it weighs next to nothing.
The scrub comes in a hard plastic jar. So hard enough that cannot be easily squeezed with a protective plastic lid. The product volume is 60g and is very consistent.
Texture
The texture of the formula is thick and grainy, feels a little bit like butter and truly you can tell that it contains shea butter. Bee wax has been removed from the formula recently but in comparison to the old formula, not much has changed in the texture of the scrub.
The beeswax was replaced with Candelilla Wax Esters. Candelilla is a popular plant wax from Australia & Mexico. It is a plant-derived wax and its replacement for bees’ wax has now made the scrub Vegan-Friendly.
I did not notice any real difference in the texture and application of use in this scrub the first time I used the improved formula. However, the sugar particles in it are rough enough to give your skin an effective mechanical exfoliation but not too rough such as leaving traces behind. NO.
Ingredients
The most relevant ingredients in the Klairs scrub is the black sugar, shea butter, and cranberry seed oil. The cranberry seed oil, which contains very high fatty acid properties and is as well a great anti-oxidant and skin protector, happens to be in the last place of the list. But the other highlighted ingredients are high on the list (blackstrap powder being second and shea butter seventh).
According to the EWG classification of hazardous ingredients, the only one in the highest position is fragrance. As I always advise, if at all you’ve suffered from irritation or allergies to it, (I mean FRAGRANCE) keep it in mind, or else do like me, don’t mind it too much.
We have some ingredients classified as 3 and 4 in medium hazard:
tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E), Polysorbate 20 (a cleansing agent), Petrolatum or Vaseline (emollient, hydrating), and PEG-7 Glyceryl chocolate (this is an ingredient derived from coconut oil).
Besides these ingredients, there really is none that are bad for the skin. The moderate hazard ranking factor they have has to do with the fact that they can be a little hard on the skin, but would usually not damage it.

The Complete List of Ingredients
Black sugar, Sucrose, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Glycerin, Candelilla Cera, Tocopheryl Acetate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Polysorbate 20, Microcrystalline Wax, Cetyl Alcohol, Molasses, Parfum(Fragrance), Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Powder, Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil).
Scent
As far as I am concerned, the scent is great. I like it very well. It smells pretty identical to the SkinFood offering. This is to say the scent is slightly sugary/lemon-y. In fact, sometimes I don’t feel like wearing perfume after using this scrub.
What I Like About This Scrub
Basically, the sugar scrub contains natural ingredients and focuses a lot on natural oils as well as black sugar. I also like the fact that it can be used in multiple ways which makes it really quite gentle and effective as a next-time scrub. though I like using this without
adding water or any cleansing oil to it and it still gives me good results. But I don’t know about you. Our skins are not the same. They vary from each other.
What I Don’t Like About This Scrub
The jar is nicely packaged but not very hygienic so requires adequate care. Although it is a good product I still think it is quite pricier for a face scrub.
It does not get rid of blackheads completely as that was my expectation when I first bought the scrub though it helps by reducing the visibility. I expected a result better than that.

CAUTION:
If you want to use the scrub with a cleansing oil, then mix it with cleansing oil and apply it to the face. This recommendation is for hypersensitive skin types to help reduce stimulation.
The scrub does not contain ingredients that cause irritation and sensitivity but then if you are a person with an extremely sensitive to friction kind of skin, I do not (in general) recommend a scrub exfoliator.
The scrub is not intended to completely extract blackheads but helps by dissolving them, where it is blackened so that the visibility of the blackhead is reduced and unnoticeable.
The way the skin operates, when the sebum Is extracted, it leaves the pores empty and the entrance is also enlarged and very visible.
As the sebaceous gland is secreted, the oil oxidizes and blackened in the process and you cannot stop that from happening but with the help of the Black Sugar Polish, it is very possible to maintain a cleaner look by cleansing with the scrub.
It is also advised to be used alternately b/w two (2) to three (3) days without using any product containing AHAs/BHAs ingredients. This is because it may make your skin more irritable than before though the ingredients have no collision.
This scrub will give you a complete cleansing routine if you use it together with a cleansing oil. It is also recommended that, if you are using it or wish to use it for sebum and exfoliation care, for optimal results use it once a week.
In this case, follow this instruction below: –
- The first thing you do is to cleanse your skin with cleansing oil in order to remove your makeup.
- Next, use the scrub and rub it all over your face to gently remove sebum and dead skin cells.
- Thereafter, you rinse with lukewarm water.
- And the last, do use the foaming cleanser or facial soap and cleanse the second time to remove all residues and oils for a fresh finish.
Make sure you follow these steps to obtain the best result!
You can use this scrub on your lips as a lip scrub to hydrate and soften your lips but NOT on the eyes.
Avoid contact with the eye area because of the thin nature of the eye and minimize any kind of friction. Acne-prone too can use the scrub but it is advisable to avoid areas of inflammation and recently extracted areas as well in order to avoid possible irritation.
The scrub can be used either in the morning or in the evening but they perform different functions at different times. I mean, when you use it in the morning, it smoothens and moisturizes the skin. Leaving the skin ready for make-up.
But when you use it in the evening, it removes all the waste accumulated all through the day and helps other products to absorb well into the skin giving the skin the proper texture and skin beauty.

Conclusion
The klair’s gentle black sugar facial polish is my all-time favorite sugar scrub. It’s actually a lot pricier compared to some other Korean facial scrubs but it’s worth the money. It is very gentle on the skin and has a pleasant subtle scent. That is why I took the time to write this Klair’s gentle black sugar facial polish review.
I would definitely recommend this scrub for everyone to use.
