I’m sure you’ve heard a timely warning before that “Winter is coming” in your struggles with how to care for your skin during winter and your search for the best winter skin care products.

Luckily enough it is time to face it!!!

Importance of Winter Skin Care

Whenever the temperatures or the climate change, our skin suffers the consequences. The moment temperatures fall, the air becomes drier than normal, and the skin pays the price as well, (coming from a dermatologist by the name of Joshua Zeichner, (MD). The skin is less able to protect itself in frigid conditions, this is a condition that can lead to cracks in the outer layer of the skin, loss of hydration, and inflammation,” he added.

So, how do we fight against this sort of climatic condition that leaves our skin dull and dehydrated?

You need to upgrade your skincare!!!

Today we are discussing the best ways to care for your skin during winter from skincare to products according to different skin types beginning with acne-prone skin types.

Winter Skin Care Tips for Acne Prone Skin

Acne does not just affect a particular skin type but it is rather a skin condition anyone can suffer from, regardless of skin type. So, for people who get acne during the winter, here are some important skincare tips to keep in mind during winter!

During the winter seasons, you must keep in mind these 5 rules below, coupled with your normal skincare routine when you develop acne:

  1. Pay attention to the ingredients
  2. Anti-inflammation and antioxidant care
  3. Keep the inner layers of your skin hydrated
  4. Maintain calming care, and
  5. Endeavor to avoid acne scars and spots

Don’t Stray from Ingredients That Soothe Your Acne

If you have ever suffered from acne before, you should eventually have your most preferred product(s) that works well for your acne. The best ingredients most effective for acne must contain four (4) main properties and these are: –

  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Possess soothing and gentle exfoliating qualities

Even at that, not all ingredients are guaranteed to work well on the skin, which is why it’s a very important factor to first find an ingredient that works well for you whenever you develop acne. The ingredient I have found to work well for acne is Mugwort.

Outside of Asia, this product (mugwort) may not be the most well-known ingredient. But for those who are familiar with skincare, mugwort is regarded as the holy grail of ingredients for acne and other skin troubles by the skin care industry in a general nutshell.

A few details about the Mugwort ingredient:

Mugwort extract has the power to detox the skin. It is full of a multitude of various vitamins and antioxidant properties, which enables it to pull out toxins from the blood. As if that was not enough, it also has the ability to balance hormones, when it is used on the skin, it helps to treat acne breakouts due to hormonal changes. Due to its potent soothing and healing effects, it is suitable for treating skin conditions such as: –

  • Adult acne
  • Irritation
  • Rough Skin
  • Redness

Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory skin care

You do understand the importance of anti-inflammation and antioxidant care whenever you have acne. The best way to care for acne during the winter is to use products with the right ingredients, including the right method and skincare products. The use of a wash-off face mask in your day-to-day skincare routine is not an obligation.

But when your skin is struggling with too much oil or too many dead skin cells, instead of using a chemical exfoliating product or a scrub you may not be familiar with, I strongly recommend a wash-off face mask because, a wash-off face mask will actually provide the skin with anti-inflammatory and antioxidants effect, and also balance oil level. When you apply it, let it stay on for like 10 to 15 minutes so that it provides the skin with nourishment care, and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Hydrating The Skin’s Inner Layers

During the winter period, there are times when the skin feels dry, not only on the outer layer but also within. When the skin is dehydrated, it can easily cause skin breakouts because it naturally produces more oil to prevent the skin from breaking out. So, always make sure you give your skin the time to hydrate deep into the cells. One of the easiest and most effective ways to do so is with ‘sheet masking’.

Integrating a sheet mask into your skincare routine, be it in the morning or night time is the easiest way to add extra hydration to the skin, and also helps to calm any skin that tends to become sensitive because of the harsh wind and temperature drop.

The Need for Calming Care Is Critical

For a cream to be thicker doesn’t mean the cream is more hydrating for the skin.

Take Note!!!

The key factor to the best moisturizer is the ingredient, formula, and texture if it will enable your skin to feel comfortable, and give your skin effective hydration. So, each time the air gets drier and the wind becomes colder, make sure to regularly finish your skincare regimen with a high-quality moisturizer.

A good moisturizer that will keep treating your acne with anti-bacterial components while also adding extra hydration to lock in the moisture of the skin and the ingredients without making the skin uncomfortable.

Winter Skin Care Tips for Dry Skin

The first part of this winter skin care tip was on acne-prone skin, but this time around it is on dry skin. We are going to look at skin care and product recommendations, as well as how to use them. This will help us ensure that they can properly care for our dry skin this winter season. But before we get started, let’s consider the best ways to design a skincare routine for the dry winter season, Let us also look at what can be done to stop the skin’s natural oils and moisture from evaporating. Which is the biggest issue that some of us experience during the winter.

Additionally, it’s crucial to keep in mind these three (3) guidelines if you are having dry skin:

  1. Boost Moisture Barrier
  2. Lock in Moisture Throughout Your Skincare Regimen
  3. Don’t ever overlook the importance of the winter sun; shield the skin from its rays.

Honey – The Perfect Treatment for Dry Skin

If at all possible, you should keep in mind one particular component that will protect your dry skin in winter if constructing a whole skincare regimen from scratch is difficult. Therefore, to make it simpler here is the key ingredient: HONEY. Find a way to include this precious ingredient in your routine in case you have dry skin on the inside, as well as the outside.

Protect the skin with an antioxidant-hydrating face mask

Winter’s severe effects on our skin are well known. In addition to the dry winter winds and abrupt temperature changes, we occasionally fail to remember to use sunscreen. Therefore, it is crucial to use effective skincare products that are packed with antioxidants to safeguard our skin and improve the barrier.

Adding a rich, nourishing wash-off face mask to your routine to give the skin the nutrients and hydration it deserves is one of the simplest methods to accomplish this. In this manner, the honey will remain evenly distributed over the whole face for around 10 minutes, allowing the antioxidant components to deeply moisturize the skin.

Winter Wash-Off Mask Guidelines – Be careful to rinse it off with damp water after using it for 10 to 15 minutes. It is preferable to wash it off from the skin using a rolling motion or a soft towel rather than wiping it off vigorously and irritating the skin.

Use Light-Weight Honey Barrier to Strengthen the Moisture Barrier

should I just concentrate more on a nice serum or should I use a sheet mask? is a thought that will never leave your mind if you have dry skin. The ideal choice, in my opinion, will largely depend on how and what your skin prefers. Therefore, I believe that using a hydrating and moisturizing sheet mask will give the skin a nice layer of moisture during this winter season.

A serum targets the skin issue your skin may be having by delivering active chemicals. Since we are discussing “dry skin” here, be sure to choose a serum that is made with moisturizing components and an excellent antioxidant to help restore the skin’s damaged barrier.

Instead of concentrating on applying a thick coating of serum to the skin, when using a serum, concentrate more on the components. For example, honey and propolis will hydrate and reduce inflammation while Centella Asiatica will soothe sensitive skin.

The Honey Glow Cream Will Help You Lock In Moisture

If your skin is dry, have this wintertime advice in mind. If you don’t seal and retain the moisture in your skin, no matter how many products you use or how many coats of moisturizer you apply, your skin will continue to feel dry. Thus, always take your time and complete each task completely. Because if all you have to complete your skincare routine is a nice cream, having a lot of products won’t be enough.

It’s crucial to get a cream with elements that will support the skin’s moisture level and barrier, but you also need to think about the cream’s texture. A thick cream’s texture does not always indicate that it will hydrate the skin well. You choose a cream that will give your skin a pleasant feeling since it has an excellent water-to-oil ratio. The skin functions best when it is left at peace and in comfort, regardless of the season.

Winter Skin Care Tips for Oily Skin

We are done with acne-prone and dry skin care during winter, it’s time to talk about oily skin care during winter.

oily skin winter skincare tips insert image 1

Just like I once said in my article about finding your skin type, if you have not read that article yet, click here and read more about how to find your skin type, you still need to stay hydrated even if your skin is oily.

NO!!!

If your skin is oily, you must ensure that you control the oil effectively while also keeping in mind that your skin has to be moisturized without having too much oil. How then can we avoid using products that are oil-free while preserving the natural oil on the skin?

This Is the Big Question!!!

Exfoliate Your Skin with hydration

For those with oily skin, exfoliation has always been and continues to be a regular practice. However, the fact that it’s winter does not mean your skin doesn’t need to be properly exfoliated. If your skin is oily, you still have to remove an excessive layer of flaky dead skin cells or regulate excess oil. But when winter finally arrives, you need to go a bit softer and moisturizing rather than immediately using your regular chemical exfoliant or exfoliating scrub.

Sugar Will Make An Excellent Exfoliator for Oily Skin This Winter

  • Sugar is an exfoliating and hydrating ingredient altogether because, in contrast to other exfoliators, it keeps the skin moisturized.
  • Glycolic acid, which is included in sugar, helps to hydrate and condition the skin while shielding it from impurities and pollution.
  • It disintegrates very quickly in the presence of oil and water, causing less irritation to your skin whenever you exfoliate your skin.
  • It has numerous applications for effective exfoliation and cleansing.

Refresh Your Skin with a Watery and Viscosity-free Toner

Using an oily or thick toner is what you shouldn’t do the moment you finish taking your shower and clear your skin. First, adding extra hydration right after a shower is very important to minimize the skin’s risk of drying out (that can cause the natural oil to secrete itself even more). When your skin is oily, you will have to keep your skincare light, but hydrating and refreshing. Choosing a watery and viscosity-free toner, that contains moisturizing components like coconut water and green tea, will be the answer to this.

How to Choose the Best Toner for Oily Skincare During Winter.

When choosing a toner, remember the following: –

  • A watery and light-textured toner will hydrate and refresh your skin. (Less viscosity, more refreshing).
  • The toner should contain ingredients having soothing and calming effects that are moisturizing such as Coconut Water and Green Tea water.
  • A toner that is fast absorbing into the skin without leaving behind any residue.
  • A toner that is simple to layer several times till the skin feels moisturized both internally and externally.

A Good Serum That Is Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid

Serum may be too much of an addition in a skincare routine for those with oily skin., During winter, however, you should reconsider. If you choose a light-textured serum that will moisturize the skin from the inside, it will do a good job to balance the level of oil and water on your skin. In case you don’t regularly use serum during summer, make sure the texture of the serum is to your liking. Because it is an addition to your regular routine. Check that it is not a bug but a reviving and calming action that will assist your oily, yet dry skin, to be calm and hydrated at a time.

Why a Serum Is Cooling, Calming, and Perfect for Oily Skin?

  • Ingredients that promote hydration, like hyaluronic acid
  • Ingredients that are calming and soothing, such as Centella Asiatica extract
  • A cooling and refreshing texture that makes the skin feel soft.

Cream: Use an Oil-Free Cream To Moisturize

If your skin is hydrated well enough, you can as well skip the moisturizer step. However, each time the wind becomes colder and drier, you will have to ensure that all the hydrants that were previously used on your skin, remain secured and retained into the skin. You can archive this with the help of a perfect oil and water-balanced moisturizer, as well as having the consistency of either a thin cream paste or gel. Instead of applying cream to your entire face, concentrate on the regions that feel dry, or you can apply a light layer over the face evenly.
